Summerblue Arts is an award-winning, visual and performing arts program for youth, now in its 25th season, located on 40 beautiful acres of meadows and woods across from a state wayside on Lake Superior’s North Shore in Two Harbors, Minnesota.
Summerblue Arts offers a unique 3-week day program for students age 7 to 17. Each summer features several two and three-dimensional art projects in a variety of mediums and the creation of an original play with music, dance, and characters and storyline developed in collaboration with all participants.
The production and art showing go up on the last two days of the camp: the play on an outdoor stage in a natural amphitheatre with the woods as a backdrop; and the art showing under a huge 30’ x 60’ tent.
Joining founder/director, Lon Church, are experienced professional artist/teachers with myriad talents to inspire students in each area of the arts. Past art projects have included a host of ceramic works and styles, facemasks, giant puppet-like masks, kites, watercolor and oil paintings, wind chimes, rain sticks, batik banners, and sculptures and scenery - sometimes small, sometimes towering!
